The braking method of the servo motor

Users are often confused about the role of electromagnetic braking, regenerative braking, and dynamic braking, and choose the wrong accessories.

The dynamic brake is composed of a dynamic braking resistor, which shortens the mechanical feed distance of the servo motor through energy consumption braking in the event of a fault, emergency stop and power failure.

Regenerative braking refers to the servo motor when decelerating or stopping, the energy generated by braking is fed back to the DC bus through the inverter circuit, and absorbed by the resistor-capacitance circuit.
Electromagnetic braking is a mechanical device that locks the shaft of a motor.

The difference between the three:
(1) Regenerative braking must only work when the servo is working normally, and the motor cannot be braked in the case of failure, emergency stop, power failure, etc. Dynamic brakes and electromagnetic brakes do not require a power supply to operate.
(2) The work of regenerative braking is carried out automatically by the system, while the work of dynamic brake and electromagnetic braking needs to be controlled by external relays.
(3) Electromagnetic braking is generally started after SV and OFF, otherwise it may cause the amplifier to be overloaded, and the dynamic brake is generally started after SV, OFF or the main circuit is powered off, otherwise it may cause the dynamic braking resistance to overheat.
